Some happenings in Jalandhar for past week:
**In Jalandhar, Lavdeep Singh son Jalandhar jail jailer Satpal Singh has been arrested for stealing ATM machine. He did not steal money but uprooted the whole machine and fled with it in his car. That reminds me of a class IV incident when our class teacher asked Deepak to bring a rose from garden and fearing thorns he came back with roses intact with plant and roots.
** Earlier in the week, son of a local councllor was caught stealing money from a parked vehicle and images were captured in aCCTV camera. Not to forget Sarabjot Singh son of Jalandhar MP aspirant and former cabinet home minister Buta Singh was arrested for demanding bribe. Wow. Honhar sons .. Watch out Jalandhar Dads. Do anyone of you have heard the story I recall our neighbor nani used to tell us kids. Story is about Sharawan Kumar who was carrying his blind parents in a palki on his shoulders for pilgrimage. When he reached Jalandhar he started having doubts if he should be carrying his parents on pilgrimage and put them on ground...
*More possible ghapla in local Jimkhana Club Tambola games. Earlier Geeta Mandir and Central Town Gurudwara came under the scanner because of money stealing accusations. Well bhagwan bada ya rupaiya...
**Some good news. Navchintan Kala Manch,Beas performing shows in Red Cross Bhawan. "Hum" and "The Caucasian Chalk Circle". If you get time do check out. Performances are great. The Caucasian Chalk Circle is about the love of mother. Even though she is not the birth mother over time she develops Motherly feelings that not even her birth mother can match. Very powerful performances.

*** Another failure for Jalandhar Police. Punjab High court released Darbara Singh in case of murder of Khursheed and Ropo for lack of evidence Baby Killer Darbara Singh was sentenced to death in Jan 2008 by Jalandhar District Court. Earlier Serial child killer accused Darbara Singh had been sentenced by a Punjab court to life imprisonment in other cases. For people who do not remember Darbara Singh was released from prison in December 2003 for “good conduct” before the end of the first life term. After that he was accused of kidnapping, raping and sodomizing 23 minor children after his release. He used to target children of migrant labourers. In 2004; after nabbing serial killer Darbara Singh, the police had exhumed the bodies of two of his recent victims from a sugarcane field . The killer led the police to the field on the Jalandhar-Kalasanghia road where he had buried five-year-old Khurshid and six-year-old Ruku, reported missing . Both children were cousins and belonged to Darbhanga in Bihar...Khurshid’s father, Mohammad Vakeel, identified the bodies and said that Ruku was the daughter of his younger brother who lived in Himachal Pradesh. Vakeel said that Ruku had come to Jalandhar only a few days ago before she went missing along with Khurshid from Jalandhar’s J.P. Nagar locality...Of the 17 children killed by Darbara Singh, the bodies of three were recovered before his arrest yesterday. All three, Rani, Asha and Lalu Parsad, were children of migrant labourers...Darbara Singh, who was taken by the police team led by SSP G.S. Bhullar to identify the site where he committed the crime, later said that he had killed Khurshid and Ruku by slitting their throats after sexually abusing them on October 25...The police had a tough time locating the bodies buried in the field due to the dense crop of sugarcane. Khurshid’s body was found lying on the back with his head turned slightly towards the left, while Ruku’s body was recovered in a highly decomposed state as she had virtually been beheaded...As soon as the news of the bodies being found spread in the area, a large number of people gathered at the site and watched in horror. A couple of onlookers even tried to hit the accused...The police also recovered a bottle of rum and a glass from the field. Darbara Singh said he had consumed the rum before committing the crime. The police took the bottle and glass into custody for matching fingerprints...Meanwhile, police teams also were dispatched to Tarn Taran and Rayyia, where Darbara Singh said that he had killed most of his victims by drowning them... Nishu, an 11-year-old girl who was injured by Darbara Singh near Adampur, immediately identified the accused on seeing his picture in the newspapers today.. .
