        March 4, 2013 was a tragic day in the history of Jalandhar when Jalandhar's killer roads claim lives of 13 kids, most of them below the age of 10 years, when a brick laden truck travelling in the wrong lane collided head on with a school van near Jaheera and Gohir villages of Jalandhar district on Monday.

    The incident occurred when the van belonging to Akal Academy had picked up the children from nearby villages and was proceeding towards the school around 8:00 am. The truck, which was loaded with bricks, was seen travelling on the wrong side of the road rammed into the school van, which almost disintegrated on impact.

        The Jalandhar - Nakodar stretch is one of the accident prone roads in the State, where school buses have earned the notoriety of being called "yellow coffins".

May God provide courage to parents to cope with this tragedy and may little souls rest in peace.

Punjab Assembly Elections -2012 Detailed Results

Some Highlights:

1. Top victory margin was registerd by CM candidate Sukhbir Badal. He defeated independent candidate Hansraj Josan by 50,246 votes.

2. Second best margin was registered by the same family as Sukhbir's brother-in-law Bikram Singh Majithia defeated Sukhjinder Raj Lali by 47,581 votes.

3. Thirds best margin was registered by Congress CM candidate Amarinder Singh. His victory margin was 42,318.

4.Closest contest was in Phillaur where Avinash Chander (SAD) defeated Santokh Singh (Congress) by just 31 votes.

5. Second closest margin was in Patti where Adesh Partap (SAD) defeated Harminder Gill by 59 votes.

6. Average victory margin was 9,936

7.SAD average victory margin was 9,095

8. BJP average victory margin was 10,139

9. Congress average victory margin was 9,974

10. Besides all the claims, PPP did not even finish on second spot on any of constituencies.

11. BSP also had a poor showing as they were not only unsuccessful in winning any seat, BSP took second pot only in one of constituency.
